What medication synchronization is
Most people who take three or more regular medications end up with refills scattered across the month: the blood pressure pill is due on the 3rd, the cholesterol medication on the 12th, the thyroid prescription on the 24th. That means several trips, several phone calls, and a real chance that one of them gets missed.
Medication synchronization, usually called med sync, fixes that. Our pharmacist aligns every one of your maintenance prescriptions to a single refill date each month. From then on, everything is ready together, on a day you choose.
How med sync works at Hobson Pharmacy
- We review your medications together. A pharmacist goes over everything you take, including prescriptions from different doctors, and confirms which ones are ongoing.
- We pick your sync date. You choose a day of the month that suits you, for example the first Tuesday, or the day after your Social Security deposit.
- We line everything up. To get every prescription onto the same schedule, we fill short "bridge" supplies of a few medications once. Your insurance normally covers this, and we handle the paperwork with your plan and your doctors.
- We call you before each fill. A few days before your sync date, we check in: any changes from your doctor, any medication you've stopped, anything new. Then we fill the whole set.
- You pick up once, or we deliver free. Everything arrives together, in one bag, one time a month.
Cost: $0. Hobson Pharmacy does not charge anything to set up or maintain med sync. You pay your normal copays, on one day instead of several.
Who benefits most from med sync
- Anyone taking three or more daily medications. The more prescriptions you have, the more time and worry sync saves.
- Seniors managing chronic conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, or thyroid conditions, where a missed refill has real consequences.
- Family caregivers. If you manage a parent's medications, sync turns a scattered list of due dates into one monthly delivery you can plan around.
- People who have ever run out. The monthly check-in call catches problems before you're down to your last pill.
Why it matters for your health
Pharmacies that offer med sync consistently see patients stay on their medications more reliably, because refills stop depending on memory. The monthly pharmacist call also means someone is regularly looking at your complete medication list, which is when duplicate therapies, outdated prescriptions, and interactions tend to get caught. Your doctors get a cleaner picture, too, because prescriptions from several offices are coordinated in one place.
Med sync plus free delivery
Med sync and free prescription delivery are made for each other. Once your prescriptions are synchronized, we deliver the whole month's supply to your home or office anywhere in Illinois in a single visit, at no charge. For many of our patients, that's the moment the pharmacy stops being an errand at all.
How to get started
Call 630-716-3700 and ask about medication synchronization. If your prescriptions are at another pharmacy, we'll transfer them first, which takes one call, and set up your sync date at the same time. Or send the short form on this page and a pharmacist will call you back during business hours.
Frequently asked questions
Does medication synchronization cost anything?
No. Hobson Pharmacy in Naperville sets up and manages med sync at no charge. You pay only your normal prescription copays, which are now due on one day each month instead of throughout the month.
Will my insurance cover the short fills needed to line up my prescriptions?
In most cases, yes. Insurance plans generally allow a one-time partial fill to synchronize prescriptions. Our pharmacist handles the request with your plan, and if a particular medication can't be short-filled we'll tell you before anything is changed.
What happens if my doctor changes a medication in the middle of the month?
Tell us, or have your doctor send the new prescription to Hobson Pharmacy. We fill the change right away and fold it into your sync date going forward, so you don't end up with two schedules.
Can med sync include prescriptions from different doctors?
Yes. That is one of its biggest advantages. A pharmacist coordinates refills from all of your prescribers so everything lands on the same day, and reviews the combined list for interactions each month.
